Our story
why we built this

Like many couples, we assumed finding somewhere to legally get married would be straightforward. Then we started planning our own wedding.

Between venue visits and endless browser tabs, we discovered something surprising: there aren't just a handful of places where you can hold a civil ceremony. There are thousands. Across England and Wales, thousands of beautiful venues are licensed to host civil ceremonies - yet most couples never get to discover them, because the information is scattered across hundreds of local authority websites.

From elegant country houses and historic buildings to gardens, galleries and hidden local gems, the variety out there is extraordinary. Many are full of character. Many are more affordable than you'd expect. Almost all are surprisingly hard to find.

So we built the website we wished we'd had. Licence to Marry brings every licensed civil ceremony venue in England and Wales into one simple, searchable place - free to use, no sign-up needed.
